POLJOT

Model: Aviator Chrono

Note: the design of this watch is strongly inspired to the Fortis "Pilot Chrono".., but the Cyrillic inscriptions are unique! :-) Very nice finish. Although the inspiration to Fortis, is a watch with an own Russian character.

Model: Russian Aviator "Ivan Kozedub"

Caliber: Poljot 2612 (A. Schild-based), alarm, 18 jewels, hand winding, two crowns for alarm and time

Note: dedicated to Ivan Kozedub, aviator dead in the 1991. Very massive and big (45 mm without crowns!), mineral crystal, water resistant 100M. The numbers (with Superluminova coating) are exceptionally luminous by night. Great finish, a very collectable item.

Note: a NOS piece of a classic model by Poljot. This model was used in the Soyuz space missions. There is also a second crown for the inner bezel. Nice '70s design, quite simple finish (plastic glass and stamped caseback), but it's a very impressive watch.

Note: it's substantially a vintage watch, with traces of usage (little crack on the glass), but it works perfectly :-) Caseback is screwed. A classic example of design of the Seventies.  

VOSTOK

Note: this one has a chromed case and gilded bezel, quite rare combo. Complete with box, but with wrong document (from a Molnija pocket watch!). The strap is self-built, it matches perfectly with case and dial. :-)

Note: one of the recent post-Soviet automatic Vostoks. Unfortunately with some little defect (a bit low power reserve, and sometime stops after setting the hands). However, it keeps reliable time.

Note: the first version of the automatic Vostok (only 21 jewels), export version. No comparisons with the new ones: extremely smooth crown, perfect and reliable behavior. Bought from an Italian seller, NOS with box and documents.

Notes: the design of this case reminds the shape of a star. The most pleasant version among the Vostoks with this case. 

RAKETA

Model: Perpetual Calendar

Notes: bought from an Italian seller, gold coloured indexes. The perpetual calendar (a rotating bezel that matches the months/days on the dial) goes from 1980 to 2012, but can be used also for the recent years. One of the most typical Raketa watches.

Note: the Raketa 24H watches are among the most typical Russian watches. The hour hand makes only one rotation in one day instead of two. A way to read the time derived from special purposes.

MOLNIJA

Note: this shows the symbol of one of the highest Soviet decorations. The dial is in metal, chromed and decorated; the caseback celebrates the old patriotic war (1941-1945).

Note: this watch has a recent, simpler version of the caliber 3602, with only 15 jewels (the remaining 3 jewels are replaced by metallic bearings) and a quite rough gold-coloured finish, lessa accurate than the previous version. Dial is white (plastic).

Note: the classic watch of the Soviet railways. There is a train engraved on the caseback; no metallic cover on the glass. One of the most typical Russian watches.

Note: i fitted a Molnija pocket watch movement into a Panerai-style case. Hands, crown and dial are the sames of the pocket watch; the glass was rotated to match the magnifier lens (originally for a date window) with the seconds subdial. The caseback is see-thru type. A very nice self-built watch. :-)

Note: bought by my father at the flea market in Bari in the 1993. The movement is a replica of the 1MWF-Pobeda of the years '50s. Nice dial, ultra-cheap substance, but works perfectly.

Model: Gruen "Soviet"

Note: American brand, probably Chinese dial and case, only the movement is Russian. But it deserves a place in this collection ;-) Very nice example of "canteen crown" watch. The case is simply painted, no PVD coating. The movement is substantially the same of the Slava "CCCP".

Model: Gruen "Soviet" (grey case)

Note: this version with grey case and brown strap is particularly pleasant in my opinion! :-)  On both the watches, the upper part of the strap has a little "pocket" to place the end of the lower part. And, as on the previous watch, the indices are luminous, but the hands aren't (quite strange feature). 

Model: Luch Perpetual Calendar

Note: this watch is apparently similar to the Raketa perpetual calendar, but indeed it's inspired to the Orient Multi-Calendar of the years '70s.  The calendar (in Cyrillic) is until the year 2023. A very big and eye-catching watch (the green dial is very nice). The strap was built by me with a pants belt. :-)

Module: 30350, quartz; time, month, day of the week and of the month

Note: a rare example of Soviet LCD watch. Very thick and big, it works with two huge batteries! The factory produced also the electronic instruments of the Russian space ships. Very interesting item. The strap is self-built.

Producer/City: Integral-Elektronika Watch Factory, Minsk

Year: 1987

Module: 8304, quartz; time, month, day of the month, internal light

Note: another rare example of Soviet digital watch, lighter than the previous and also more modern (only one battery.... :-)) , but less nice IMHO and of quite cheap substance. Unfortunately the glass is cracked, and it can't be replaced with a generic one. :-(

Model: "Agat" stopwatch

Note: a very simple and classic Russian stopwatch, bought at the flea market with box and document. Very noisy ticking, it's beautiful as collector item...i didn't yet used to measure the time of a run! :-)
