The history of the Soviet Union is now very far in the time, it seems passed since an entire century, although the Communist empire fallen only 10 years ago, a relatively short time. Now, the world -also the former-communist countries, as the Russia and the other "satellite" countries- seems destined to assume the features and the uses of only one power (the USA). What does remains of the past "red enemy"? Ideologies, fragments of great dreams, desire of freedom, big failed projects, terrible dictatorships, big injustices, the cult of the leader. Relics of a past empire, archeology for sociologists and historians. And also the history of the cars can help to understand an important era.
This website is the result of almost two years of research and hard work. It was created to give a view on the unknown world of Eastern cars and motorcycles produced during the communist period and today. Everybody knows any detail about "dream-car" as Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, and about the most common cars on our roads (VW, Fiat, Renault, Toyota etc. etc.). Instead, nobody knows (i think...) the very surprising variety of the East Europe production! It's not interesting for the technology, but we must know that half world uses these vehicles to work or to travel! Cars and bikes are listed only with their main technical data, to describe better the historical aspect. I apologize for some error in English...but my second language was French! IMPORTANT: This site hasn't commercial intention (i don't have even the banners!): if there is stuff protected by copyright, i will remove it (or i will describe the source). The text, totally composed by me, is of my exclusive property. "Autosoviet" is not a resource for spare parts and homologation problems, it's only a historical resource: i will be glad to hear opinions and problems, but i can't help anybody about the spare parts and the homologation! Moreover, this site- in spite of the Soviet flags and symbols- is not about political arguments; the argument of this site is totally indipendent from any political opinion.
I thank all the people -several email friends from Russia, United States, Poland, Italy, Germany and many other countries- who helped me, exchanging pictures and informations. In truth, there were also two or three persons very unpleasant (probably envious of this work...), i don't quote them because they are not worthy to be considered. The best satisfaction is to know many people who shares with me informations, sensations and memories, moved by an only thing: the passion for the old cars and motorcycles from the East Europe.

Sono passati poco più di dieci anni (al momento in cui scrivo) da quando l'Unione Sovietica è crollata sotto il suo stesso peso, con il suo carico di ideologie, di grandi conquiste e di altrettanto grandi crudeltà. Ma in realtà, questi dieci anni hanno visto l'aprirsi di un nuovo secolo, il diffondersi di nuove conquiste tecnologiche (Internet ed affini), nonchè l'affermarsi di un nuovo ordine mondiale gestito dagli USA, che si apprestano a imporre i loro usi e la loro cultura anche in Russia e nei suoi ex-Paesi satellite. La storia dell'URSS, quindi, sembra già morta e sepolta da ben più di dieci anni. Cosa rimane di quell'epoca? Ideologie, frammenti di grandi ideali, desiderio di libertà e di indipendenza culturale, antropologie fallite, terribili dittature. Reliquie di un impero caduto, archeologia per sociologi e storici, che tuttavia non merita di essere approvata o rinnegata in toto. Ed anche la storia delle auto e delle moto nell'ex-blocco comunista può aiutare a capire un'era importante, nel bene e nel male. Tutti conosciamo, ormai,vita, morte e miracoli di "dream car" come Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, nonchè di tutte le altre vetture che calcano abitualmente le nostre strade, italiane, francesi, tedesche o giapponesi che siano. Quasi nessuno, invece (se sbaglio,smentitemi...) conosce la varietà della produzione dell' Europa orientale. Eppure, milioni di persone circolano su questi veicoli (a due o quattro ruote che siano), gente che,quanto a cura e conoscenza del mezzo, ha molto da insegnarci!
Non ho inserito tabelle tecniche, per soffermarmi maggiormente sull' aspetto storico; nè ci si soffermerà troppo, ad esempio, sui cosiddetti "model year" (per dirla all' americana), ovvero non verranno analizzati tutti i minimi cambiamenti di una vettura anno per anno.
